Enamel street plaque
Charles Vaillant (1872 ~ 1939) was a pioneer of radiology. He was one of the first to explore the new diagnostic technique of x-rays. His dedication to the study of x-rays led to him suffering from radiodermatitis (a skin disease associated with prolonged exposure to radiation) and ultimately to his death. In fact his tombstone is inscribed “Victim of Science”. This plaque is a great dedication to an historical medical/scientific figure or taken literally “vaillant” means “courageous” . The sign is in great condition with only a couple of minor dinks along the edges. It is a wonderful dark royal blue in colour, bombée (curved) in style and dates from the early 1940s. A fantastic present for someone in the medical or scientific profession or if they are called Charles! Dimensions: 40cm x 25cm.
