Match box

These matchboxes, often in the background are synonymous with French kitchens and have come to symbolise the country chic so beloved by interior designers. It was a wedding present in 1935 to M. and Mme Beauregard, who apparently received the whole enamel set of pots, pans, boxes etc. in this blue and white pattern. Sometimes known as “snow on the mountain” or “clouds in the sky”! Over the years pieces have got lost, broken or sold. This is the last of their wedding gifts and was sold to me by their daughter Marie-France to raise money for a new pig! It is in what I would describe as a fair condition. There are patches of enamel loss on the lid, the back plate, along the bottom edge and inside at the corners. Despite this there are no holes. The condition does not in any way detract from its desirability as a decorative item and it would look fantastic in any setting. Dimensions: (width) 14cm ~ (depth) 7cm ~ (height of box only) 7.5cm ~ (height of box and to top of back plate) 19.5cm
