The idea that was created by Jacqueline Merritt, as a way of
fulfilling her insatiable need to shop, coupled with her enduring love of
France and her interest in antiques and collectables.
|
 |
|
| |
In a small family restaurant deep in the heart of the Auvergne and after one of
those incredibly long lunches of amazingly fresh food and several glasses of
good wine, Jacqueline and her friends realised that in the UK there was a huge interest
in France and all things French.
|
|
| |
 |
From the explosion of house buyers from the UK wanting to
live the dream to those who haven’t quite got there yet and instead have their
own bit of France in the form of antiques and collectables. She decided then,
that what was needed was a way of offering to the public good quality and
original items without the problems and hassles of the search. |
|
| |
This was the beginning of French Collectables
and the start of an opportunity to bring to you all those kind of objects that she enjoys. Unusual,
eclectic, interesting, sometimes quirky and often rare pieces for your home.
Generally unique, some of them are antiques others are just ancien. All
have character and in most cases just as they were when she bought them. On the
whole she doesn’t deep clean, polish or restore items as she believes that this
is part of the enjoyment of buying and owning an original piece. |
 |
|
| |
 |
She divides her time between the UK and her colombage
farmhouse in Normandy. From this base just across the Channel she travels all over France
searching for antiques and collectables of enduring quality and beauty. She has
an enviable network of friends and contacts throughout France who help her find
the unusual and intriguing items that you see on the website.
|
|
| |
Jacqueline also offers a bespoke search facility. If you are looking for a
particular item or piece contact her and she will do her best to source what
you want. Three recent commissions include a wonderful (but large!) 19th C sleigh, a beautiful travelling easel such
as Monet might have used from the mid/late 1800s and an amazing rustic farm
cart circa 1820. Perhaps you have a particular or special occasion you want to
buy a present for, you have a vague idea, but are not too sure how or where you
can buy it. Contact Jacqueline and she will see if she can help. |
|
| |
Due to the nature of Jacqueline’s collecting and buying the website changes
frequently, so if you don’t see what you want today, come back and have a look
tomorrow.
