Chocolat Poulain
This is a wooden crate that was used to transport bars of Chocolat Poulain, that most iconic of all French chocolate marques. Although it has seen better days and the lid is missing it is still a wonderfully decorative piece. Embossed on the two long sides is “Chocolat Poulain, goûtez et comparez” and at one end is stamped “768, 36kg, Pul ve. 250”. Some of the planks of wood have split but this doesn’t affect its attractiveness. I’m not sure it would bear 36 kg anymore but it could still be used to store plants or toys or just to keep your chocolate supplies in! It dates from the mid 1960s and has been stored indoors since then. These are getting rarer to find as they were usually broken up and thrown away. A lovely useable French collectable.
